This handsome structure was built in 1851 as a Universalist Church, was turned into an Opera House in 1871, and became the Jamaica Town Hall in 1920.  Through generous town appropriations, grants, gifts, and a lot of donated labor and materials, the hall's Greek Revival and Victorian architecture has been beautifully restored and the stage has been upgraded to be able to accommodate a wonderful variety of civic, community, and cultural events. 

Beginning in 2004, a JAMAICA VT FIBER FESTIVAL has been held every spring in the Town Hall.  Town meetings, concerts, talent shows, weddings, and other celebrations and entertainments were conducted throughout the restoration, and now we can look forward to adding plays and musicals to our offerings.  Check the calendar for some exciting upcoming events at the Jamaica Town Hall.

May 17 2008   10 AM to 4 PM   Fifth Annual Jamaica Fiber Festival.  Admission free.

May 24 2008   7:30 PM   The Leland & Gray Players present HATS OFF musical acts fitted to our newly rigged historical painted stage scenery.  Adults $6, students $4.

May 25  2008   2:30 PM  The Leland & Gray Players will repeat HATS OFF.  During the scene changes there will be a dedication of the restored Town Hall and thanks given to Jamaicans and agencies who contributed to the restoration.  Adults $6, students $4.

June 1 2008   3 PM   MILDRED TAKEN CRAZY, a new play about an old Vermont crime, followed by a discussion with the play’s creators and actors, Steve Friedman and Denny Partridge.   Recommended for adults and teens only.  $5.

Now that the restoration as originally envisioned is nearing completion, the Town Hall Restoration Committee will be replaced by the Selectboard with a Town Hall Committee to oversee the use of the building. The change is not yet complete, and for the present the
