I do not draw, I have never painted. Since childhood I have been a collector of images.

I am a thoughtful, passionate and joyful viewer of art.

My husband, Joel Beckwith, is an artist-printmaker. One artist in the family is enough.

Elaine Beckwith Gallery is a one-woman operation. I am curator, manager, shipper and janitor of a gallery collection in which each artist stands prominently and uniquely among peers. I search for work in which the artist speaks directly to the viewer by way of visual syntax that we may not at first understand. I am interested in what motivates artists; what they are trying to communicate and the vision and voice that they bring to their work. I search for the connection between mind and heart and hand-- the intellect, passion and skill of the artist. An artist’s technical skill, the ability to manipulate the raw material of art, the craft of the artist’s work, is the final assessment.
